Roofing PPC Measured in Inspections and Signed Jobs
Roofing PPC is paid search advertising, mostly Google Ads and Local Services Ads, that puts a roofing company in front of homeowners who need a repair, an inspection or a new roof now. It pays off only when spend is judged on inspections booked and jobs signed, not clicks. CFS Marketing runs Google Ads that way: tracking checked against real leads first, insurance-claim and retail searches kept apart, and budgets that move with storms and seasons.

CFS Marketing is a senior-led SEO, AI search and Google Ads consultancy founded by Cesar Soto in 2022, serving growth-focused businesses from Irving, Texas. This page is for residential and light commercial roofers who spend $3,000 or more a month on Google Ads, or are ready to, and want to know what each signed job costs.

What Does Roofing PPC Management Include?
Roofing PPC management includes the account decisions that decide what your budget buys: which searches you pay for, which campaign type answers them, what counts as a lead, and how results are judged. CFS Marketing handles it in this order:
- Tracking first. Every call path and form tested, and Google-reported conversions compared with the leads in your CRM before anything is optimized.
- Campaigns split by intent. Emergency repair, storm and insurance claims, retail replacement and commercial each get their own campaigns and budgets.
- Local Services Ads and Search, run side by side and compared on cost per inspection.
- Negative keywords for jobs, DIY and materials searches, reviewed weekly during cleanup.
- A storm plan built before the storm, not during it.
- Offline conversion import, so Google learns which clicks became signed jobs.
- Monthly reporting in leads, inspections, signed jobs and cost per signed job.
For the general method, see our Google Ads consultant page. This page covers what is different about roofing.
02
How Do Storms and Seasons Change a Roofing Google Ads Account?
Storms and seasons shape a roofing account: search demand can jump in the days after hail or high wind in a specific area, and slow down again when the weather turns. A roofing account has to be ready for both without wasting money in between.
How we plan for it:
- Storm campaigns built in advance and kept paused, with ads, landing pages and negative lists ready, so they can go live the day after a storm.
- Location targeting by ZIP code around the affected area, set to people physically there. Google Ads defaults to "Presence or interest", which can show your ads to people outside the area.
- Only where you can serve. We don't target storm areas outside your licensed, insured and staffed service area. A lead you can't serve well costs you twice: the click and the review.
- Budget rules agreed with you in writing: how much extra to spend after a storm, and when to pull back.
- Seasonal pacing for retail replacement, which follows its own calendar in most markets.
Seasonal demand is not new to us. One of our Google Ads clients is a trade school whose enrollments follow the construction season; its results are below.
03
Should Insurance-Claim and Retail Roofing Searches Run in Separate Campaigns?
Yes. Insurance-claim and retail roofing searches should run in separate campaigns, because the buyer, the message, the sales process and the value of the job are different. Mixing them hides which one is profitable.
| Insurance-claim intent | Retail intent | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical searches | Hail damage roof inspection, storm damage roof repair, roof insurance claim help | Roof replacement cost, new roof quote, metal roof installers |
| What the homeowner wants | An inspection and help with the claim process | A price, options and financing |
| Landing page | Inspection booking, what happens during a claim inspection | Materials, process, financing, project photos |
| What to measure | Cost per inspection, then cost per approved claim and signed job | Cost per estimate, then cost per signed job |
| Watch for | Ad copy limits on claim and deductible promises | Price shoppers and material researchers |
Insurance-claim ads need careful wording. State laws limit what a contractor may promise around a claim or a deductible. Texas, for example, requires the insured to pay any deductible on a first-party property claim. We write ads that offer inspections and claim help, never "free roof" or "we cover your deductible" offers, and you approve every ad before it runs. We do not give legal advice.

Local Services Ads or Search Ads: Which Should a Roofer Run?
Most roofers should test both: Local Services Ads for the calls they capture at the top of the page, and Search campaigns for the control they give over keywords, ad copy and landing pages. They buy different things, so we compare them on cost per inspection, not on cost per lead alone.
| Local Services Ads | Search campaigns | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Leads (calls or messages), not clicks | Clicks on text ads |
| Control | Job types and service areas; you can dispute invalid leads | Keywords, match types, negatives, ad copy, landing pages, schedules |
| Where leads arrive | Through Google's own call and message system | Your website, calls and forms |
| Strength | Simple, high-intent calls near the top of the page | Separate storm, claim and retail campaigns with their own messages |
| Weakness | Little control over which searches trigger the ad | Needs tight negatives and tracking to avoid waste |
Leads from both go into one log, so you can see which one actually produces inspections and signed jobs at a lower cost.
05
Which Negative Keywords Does a Roofing Account Need?
A roofing account needs negative keywords for three groups of searches that will never sign a job: job seekers, do-it-yourselfers and materials shoppers. Negative keywords stop your ads from showing on those searches.
| Group | Example searches to block |
|---|---|
| Jobs and careers | roofing jobs, roofer hiring, roofing salary, roofing apprenticeship |
| DIY | how to fix a roof leak yourself, how to shingle a roof, roof patch kit |
| Materials and suppliers | shingles wholesale, roofing nails, underlayment price, metal panels for sale |
| Other | roofing software, roofing license class, roof cleaning, roof racks, wrong cities |
We decide some terms case by case. "Cheap" or "cost" can be junk for one roofer and a strong retail lead for another, so we read the search terms report before blocking them.
This is the same discipline we used on a bankruptcy law firm's Google Ads account, where negative keyword management removed 40% of low-intent traffic.
06
How Should Roofers Track Calls and Forms?
Roofers should track every call and form back to the campaign and keyword that produced it, then confirm the numbers against the leads the office actually received. Many roofing leads arrive by phone, so call tracking is not optional.
The setup:
- Call tracking numbers on the website, swapped by source, so Google Ads calls, organic calls and profile calls are counted separately.
- Calls from ads counted with a minimum call length, so hang-ups and wrong numbers don't count as leads.
- Form and inspection booking tracking in Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads, tested with real submissions.
- A lead log or CRM where your office marks each lead as inspection booked, claim filed, estimate sent, signed or lost.
Why we check before we optimize: when we took over a trade school's Google Ads, we cross-referenced 1,462 reported conversions against the school's form database and found zero matches. After we rebuilt the tracking, the account produced 88 verified leads from June to December 2025, and 27% became students. A roofing account bidding on bad conversion data has the same problem: it teaches Google to find more of the wrong thing.
07
Should Roofing PPC Be Measured on Cost per Inspection or Cost per Signed Job?
Roofing PPC should be measured on both: cost per inspection tells you within days whether the ads are working, and cost per signed job tells you whether they are profitable. Cost per lead alone is too early in the process to judge a roofing account.
| Stage | Formula | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per lead | Ad spend ÷ qualified calls and forms | Whether the ads attract the right people |
| Cost per inspection | Ad spend ÷ inspections completed | Whether leads turn into appointments |
| Cost per signed job | Ad spend ÷ contracts signed | Whether the account makes money, compared with your average job margin |
To close the loop, we send inspections and signed jobs from your CRM back to Google Ads through offline conversion import. Bidding can then favor the searches that become contracts, not just calls. Google only accepts imports within 90 days of the click, and roofing sales, especially insurance claims, can take weeks, so the upload has to run on a regular schedule.

What Results Has CFS Marketing Produced With This Method?
CFS Marketing does not have a roofing client case study yet. Here is what the same method produced in adjacent work, so you can judge it on real numbers.
A bankruptcy law firm's Google Ads account, managed by CFS Marketing from 2022 through 2025:
| Year | Managed by | Cost per conversion |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | Previous agency | $61.44 |
| 2022 | CFS Marketing (takeover) | $60.06 |
| 2023 | CFS Marketing | $56.16 |
| 2024 | CFS Marketing | $52.93 |
| 2025 | CFS Marketing | $51.12 |
- Cost per conversion fell every year, ending 16.8% below the 2021 baseline.
- 1,511 conversions from 2022 to 2025; 2024 had 475 conversions, verified against the firm's CRM.
- Conversion rate rose from 13.43% (2021) to 22.80% (2022, the takeover year), then settled around 18%.
- Negative keyword management removed 40% of low-intent traffic.
The trade school above, whose enrollments follow the construction season, went from 1,462 reported conversions with zero real matches to 88 verified leads after the tracking rebuild. These are results in other industries; your numbers will differ, and we do not promise the same outcome. More detail is on our case studies page.

Who Is Roofing PPC With CFS Marketing a Fit For?
Roofing PPC with CFS Marketing is a fit for roofers who spend, or are ready to spend, $3,000 or more a month on Google Ads, and whose office will log what happens to each lead. Below that, the management fee takes too large a share of the budget, and there are too few leads for bidding to learn from.
A good fit:
- Residential or light commercial roofers with a defined, licensed service area.
- Owners who want to see cost per inspection and cost per signed job, not just clicks.
- Companies whose Google Ads report more leads than the office remembers.
Not a good fit:
- Storm chasers who want ads in markets they don't serve year-round.
- Anyone who wants a guaranteed number of leads or jobs. Google runs the auction, and we do not guarantee results.
The first month goes to tracking and cleanup: access review, call and form tests, a match of reported conversions against your lead log, negative keyword lists, and a written target cost per inspection. For long-term lead flow that doesn't stop when the budget does, see our contractor SEO page and the rest of our Home Services work.

11
What Does Roofing PPC Cost?
Work runs on a monthly retainer scoped to the channels and fixes you need, with ad spend billed separately. Cesar quotes after reviewing your accounts. Scope depends on how many campaigns and service areas you run, whether Local Services Ads are part of the plan, and how much tracking needs to be rebuilt.

Get my custom planWhat is roofing PPC?
Roofing PPC is pay-per-click advertising for roofing companies, mostly on Google Ads and Google Local Services Ads. Done well, it is judged on cost per inspection and cost per signed job, not on clicks or calls alone.
Are Local Services Ads better than Google Search ads for roofers?
Neither is better in every market. Local Services Ads charge per lead and are simple to run; Search campaigns give more control over keywords, ad copy and landing pages. CFS Marketing usually tests both and compares them on cost per inspection.
How do you handle storm season in Google Ads?
We build storm campaigns in advance and keep them paused, then switch them on with ZIP-code targeting after a storm in your service area. Budget rules for storms are agreed with you in writing before the season starts.
What negative keywords should a roofing company use?
Start with searches for jobs and careers, do-it-yourself repairs, and roofing materials or suppliers. Then read the search terms report regularly, because the right list depends on your market and services.
Can you guarantee roofing leads or a cost per job?
No. CFS Marketing does not guarantee leads, jobs or cost per job, because Google runs the auction and competitors set part of the price. We commit to clean tracking, a written target cost per inspection and monthly reports in your numbers.
