Contractor SEO Services Built on Your Finished Projects
Contractor SEO is the work of getting a general contractor, remodeler or specialty trade found in Google, Maps and AI answers by the homeowners and property managers who are ready to hire. It rests on the proof contractors already have: finished projects. CFS Marketing builds contractor sites around project pages, one service and one location per page, a well-run Google Business Profile, and tracking that counts calls and quote requests, not just rankings.

CFS Marketing is a senior-led SEO, AI search and Google Ads consultancy founded by Cesar Soto in 2022, serving growth-focused businesses from Irving, Texas. This page is for general contractors, remodelers and specialty trades (concrete, fencing, decks, painting, flooring and similar) who want search to bring in the jobs they actually want.
01
What Does Contractor SEO Include?
Contractor SEO includes seven pieces of work, and each one feeds the others. CFS Marketing scopes them after an audit, because a remodeler with 40 thin pages needs different work than a new trade business with five.
- Project pages. One page per notable job, with the scope, location, photos and outcome.
- Service and location architecture. One service per page, one geography per page, linked in a clear structure.
- Google Business Profile. Categories, services, service areas, photos and posts kept accurate and active.
- Reviews. A steady habit of asking every finished customer, and replying to every review.
- Technical SEO. Redirects, duplicates, crawl errors, speed and internal links.
- AI answers. Pages written so Google's AI features and assistants like ChatGPT can lift a clear answer and name your business.
- Lead measurement. Calls, forms and quote requests tracked to the page and the source.
For the general method behind this, see our SEO services page. This page covers how it applies to contractors.
02
Why Do Project Pages Matter More Than a Photo Gallery?
Project pages matter more than a gallery because a gallery is one page of images with no words for Google to rank, while each project page can rank on its own for the service and the place where the work was done. A homeowner searching for a kitchen remodel in a specific suburb is reassured by a finished kitchen in that suburb. A search engine is too.
A strong project page includes:
- The service and the place in the title, for example a basement finish in a named city.
- The scope in plain words: what the customer wanted, what you found, what you built, and how long it took.
- Before, during and after photos, taken on site. Real job photos earn more trust than stock images.
- Descriptive file names, alt text and captions. Google reads the text around an image to understand it, as its image SEO guidance explains.
- Links to the matching service page and location page, so the project supports the pages you most want to rank.
- A short customer quote only if the customer gave it to you and agreed to its use.
You do not need a project page for every job. Start with the jobs that represent the work you want more of, and add one or two a month. Photo discipline on site (wide shot, detail shots, before and after from the same angle) does more for this than any writing.
03
How Should a Contractor Structure Service and Location Pages?
A contractor should give each service its own page and each target geography its own page, with one geo per page, then link them together through project pages. Two cities on one page, or ten services on one page, leaves Google guessing which search the page answers.
| Page type | Targets | What makes it worth indexing |
|---|---|---|
| Service page | One service, for example deck building | Your process, materials, timelines, FAQs and linked projects |
| Location page | One city or area you truly serve | Projects done there, local permit or HOA notes you know firsthand, reviews from that area |
| Service + location page | One service in one city, only where demand and real projects justify it | Projects of that service in that city; not a copy with the city name swapped |
| Project page | One job | Photos, scope and outcome |
Google treats near-identical city pages as doorway pages, a spam policy violation. So we only build a location page where you have real work, real reviews or real local knowledge to put on it. Smaller towns fold into a regional page instead.
Cesar has rebuilt a site's architecture at scale before. As in-house Director of Marketing at a B2B facility services company in 2026, he restructured the site around 11 service pages, updating 11,000+ internal links with zero post-crawl errors.

How Do Google Business Profile and Reviews Fit Into Contractor SEO?
Google Business Profile and reviews decide whether a contractor shows in the map results, which often sit above the regular listings for local searches. Many homeowners call straight from the profile without ever opening the website, so it needs the same care as the site.
What we manage on the profile:
- Primary and secondary categories that match the work you want, not every job you have ever done.
- Service areas and address settings. Google's guidelines for representing your business say a service-area business should hide its address from customers. Most contractors who work at the customer's property fall in that group.
- Your real business name. The same guidelines do not permit unnecessary information in the business name, and stuffing keywords into it risks suspension.
- Services, photos and posts, updated from your project pages so the profile and site tell the same story.
Reviews follow a simple rule: ask every customer at the end of every job, by text or email, with a direct link. Google's Maps content policy prohibits selectively soliciting positive reviews and offering incentives for them, so we never filter who gets asked or pay for reviews. We help you reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm and specific voice.
Cesar has managed profiles at volume. As in-house SEO Specialist at a hospital network (2019 to 2020), he optimized 2,000+ Google Business Profile locations, set up 200 new listings and managed 500 locations through Yext.
05
What Technical SEO Problems Hold Contractor Sites Back?
The technical problems that most often hold contractor sites back are broken redirects from past redesigns, duplicate pages, slow mobile load times from oversized project photos, and weak internal linking. None of them is visible to the owner, and all of them waste the attention Google gives the site.
What we check and fix:
- Redirects and broken links left by old site builders, theme changes or renamed services.
- Duplicate and thin pages, such as tag archives, near-identical city pages and empty gallery posts.
- Mobile speed, usually photo size and format first, since project photos are the heaviest thing on most contractor sites.
- Internal links from projects to services and locations, and back.
- Indexing: which pages Google has indexed, which it has ignored, and why.
This is work Cesar has done on a live site. As in-house Director of Marketing at a B2B facility services company in 2026, he eliminated 3,000+ broken redirects and 200+ duplicate pages in the first month, taking Ahrefs site health from 75% to 99%. The same site reached a mobile PageSpeed score of 96+.
06
How Can a Contractor Show Up in AI Answers?
A contractor shows up in AI answers by publishing clear, specific, consistent information that AI systems can read, trust and quote. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on pages that are already eligible to appear in Search, according to Google's guidance on AI features, so the foundation is the same SEO work described above.
On top of that, we:
- Open each service page with a direct answer to the question a buyer asks, then the specifics.
- Keep your name, address, phone, service areas and services identical on your site, profile and directory listings.
- Write FAQs in your own words about cost drivers, timelines, permits and warranties, without inventing prices.
- Check what AI tools say about you today, so changes are measured against a baseline.
We do not promise that any AI tool will recommend your business. Our answer engine optimization page covers the method, and the AI Visibility Audit is a fixed-scope way to see where you stand first.
07
How Do You Measure Contractor SEO in Leads, Not Rankings?
CFS Marketing measures contractor SEO in calls, quote requests and booked estimates, traced to the page and channel that produced them. Rankings are a leading signal; they do not pay for a crew.
The measurement setup:
- Form and quote request tracking in Google Analytics 4, with test submissions to prove each one fires.
- Call tracking that separates website calls from Google Business Profile calls, so you know which one is working.
- A simple lead log or CRM where you mark each lead as good, bad, quoted or won.
- Monthly reporting on leads by service, by location and by source, with what we are changing next.
Where you share job values, we can show which services and areas bring in the most work, so new project and location pages go where the money is.

Who Is Contractor SEO a Fit For, and Who Is It Not?
Contractor SEO with CFS Marketing is a fit for contractors who want a steadier flow of the right jobs over the next one to two years and can supply project photos and details. It is not a fit for a business that needs a full schedule next week; search takes months to build.
A good fit:
- General contractors, remodelers and specialty trades with a defined service area.
- Businesses that can send photos and a few notes on finished jobs each month.
- Owners who will tag leads as good or bad so results can be judged honestly.
Not a good fit:
- Businesses that want rankings promised by a date. We do not promise rankings.
- Contractors who need immediate volume. Paid search is faster; roofers can see our roofing PPC page, and others our Google Ads consultant page.
HVAC and plumbing companies have their own pages: HVAC marketing and plumbing marketing. All of our home services work is listed under Home Services.
09
What Happens in the First 90 Days?
The first 90 days with CFS Marketing go to fixing the foundation and publishing the first project and service pages, in that order.

- Review your Google Business Profile, categories, service areas and reviews.
- Set up call and form tracking and a lead log.
- Agree the services and areas that matter most to your business.
Days 31 to 60: fixes and architecture.

What Does Contractor SEO Cost?
Work runs on a monthly retainer scoped to the channels and fixes you need, with ad spend billed separately. Cesar quotes after reviewing your accounts. The scope depends mostly on how much technical cleanup the site needs, how many services and areas you serve, and how many project pages you want published each month.

Get my custom planWhat is contractor SEO?
Contractor SEO is search engine optimization for general contractors, remodelers and specialty trades. It covers project pages, service and location pages, Google Business Profile, reviews, technical fixes and lead tracking, so that searches turn into quote requests.
How long does contractor SEO take to work?
Technical fixes and profile changes can show effects within weeks, but new pages usually take several months to rank, depending on competition and the site's history. CFS Marketing reports leads monthly from the start so you can see the trend, and does not promise rankings by a date.
Should I make a page for every city I serve?
No. Make a location page only where you have real projects, reviews or local knowledge to put on it, with one city per page. Google treats near-identical city pages as doorway pages, so smaller towns are better covered on a regional page.
Do project photos help SEO?
Yes, when each project gets its own page with descriptive text, captions, alt text and links to the matching service and location pages. A single gallery of untitled images gives Google little to rank.
Can you guarantee first-page rankings?
No. CFS Marketing does not guarantee rankings, leads or AI recommendations, because search engines decide results. We commit to a clear plan, fixed tracking and monthly reports in leads, not just positions.
