GA4 and Conversion Tracking Services That Match Your Real Leads

Conversion tracking services set up and audit the tags, events and conversion actions that tell Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads when a visitor becomes a lead, so the numbers in your reports match the leads in your CRM. When CFS Marketing audited a trade school's Google Ads account, we cross-referenced 1,462 reported conversions against the school's form database. Zero matched a real lead.

CFS Marketing is a senior-led SEO, AI search and Google Ads consultancy founded by Cesar Soto in 2022, serving growth-focused businesses from Irving, Texas. We audit and rebuild GA4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads conversion and call tracking for lead-generation businesses across the US.

01

What Do Conversion Tracking Services Include?

Conversion tracking services from CFS Marketing include an audit of what you track today, a rebuild of anything that counts the wrong thing, and a check that reported conversions match real leads. The goal is one number everyone trusts: how many real leads came in, and from where.

The work covers:

  • Google Analytics 4: key events, data streams, filters and the events your business actually cares about.
  • Google Tag Manager: tags, triggers and variables, cleaned up and documented.
  • Google Ads conversion actions: which ones exist, which ones bidding uses, and how they count.
  • Call tracking: calls from ads and from the website, tied back to the campaign.
  • CRM match-back: reported conversions compared with the leads in your CRM or intake log.
  • Enhanced conversions and consent mode, where they apply to your setup.
  • Offline conversion import, so closed sales flow back into Google Ads.

02

What Does a Conversion Tracking Audit Check?

A conversion tracking audit checks whether every conversion you report is a real lead, counted once, in the right place. CFS Marketing works through six layers:

Layer What we check Common failure
GA4 Key events, duplicate events, internal traffic, cross-domain setup, data retention settings Page views or button clicks marked as key events
Google Tag Manager Tags, triggers and firing order; tags that fire twice or on the wrong page A "thank you" trigger that fires on every page load
Google Ads conversion actions Primary vs secondary actions; counting (Google recommends "One" for leads); imported GA4 events counted twice Bidding optimizes toward a soft action instead of a lead
Call tracking Tracking numbers on ads and site; minimum call length for a call to count Wrong numbers and 10-second calls counted as leads
CRM match-back A month of reported conversions compared, one by one where possible, with real leads Google reports far more leads than sales received
Enhanced conversions and consent Enhanced conversions for leads (hashed form data matched to offline conversions); consent mode passing visitors' consent choices to Google tags Consent banner installed but not wired to the tags

We test with real submissions: forms filled, calls placed, and each one followed through Tag Manager, GA4, Google Ads and your CRM. We report on how consent is wired technically; your legal counsel decides what consent your business needs. We do not give legal or privacy advice.

03

What Are the Signs Your Conversion Tracking Is Broken?

The clearest sign your conversion tracking is broken is that Google Ads or GA4 reports more leads than your team actually received. Other warning signs:

  1. Conversions with no matching lead. The CRM shows 20 leads; Google Ads shows 60.
  2. Implausibly cheap conversions. A cost per conversion far below what any real customer costs to win usually means something other than a lead is being counted.
  3. Conversion rate jumps with no change in ads, budget or landing pages.
  4. The same conversion counted twice, once by the Google Ads tag and again by an imported GA4 key event.
  5. Calls counted no matter how long they last.
  6. Several Google Ads or GA4 properties for one business, with nobody sure which is live.
  7. Nobody knows who owns the accounts, or the agency that built them has left.

Any one of these is reason enough to audit before spending another month on optimization. Bidding learns from what you report, so bad data steers your budget toward more of the wrong thing.

What Did a Tracking Audit Find for a Trade School?

A CFS Marketing tracking audit found that a trade school's Google Ads account had reported 1,462 conversions that did not exist in the school's records. We cross-referenced every reported conversion against the school's form database and found zero matches.

What else the audit turned up:

  • Duplicate ad accounts were running for the same school.
  • The account was bidding to a $1.80 target cost per acquisition for a high-ticket trade certification. A target that low only makes sense if the "conversions" are not real leads.

We rebuilt the tracking in GA4 and Google Tag Manager so that only real form submissions counted, then set realistic targets. From June to December 2025, the rebuilt account produced 88 verified leads, every one checked against the school's database, and 27% of those leads became students.

One client's result does not predict yours, and we do not promise the same outcome. The client's name is withheld.

05

What Is the Difference Between GA4 Key Events and Google Ads Conversions?

GA4 key events are the actions you mark as important inside Google Analytics, and Google Ads conversions are the actions Google Ads counts and can bid toward. Google now separates the two: a key event becomes a conversion only when it is shared with Google Ads.

That distinction causes a lot of broken accounts. A business imports every GA4 key event into Google Ads, including scrolls or page views, marks them all as primary, and Smart Bidding starts optimizing toward the cheapest of them. In an audit we decide, action by action, what counts as a lead, what is only worth observing, and what should be removed.

06

What Do You Get at the End of a Tracking Audit?

At the end of a CFS Marketing tracking audit you get a written report, a fix list and, if you approve it, the rebuild itself. Specifically:

  1. A reconciliation table: reported conversions vs real leads for the same period, by source.
  2. A conversion inventory: every GA4 key event and Google Ads conversion action, what it measures, and keep / change / remove.
  3. A ranked fix list, ordered by how much each problem distorts your numbers.
  4. The rebuild: Tag Manager changes, GA4 configuration, Google Ads conversion actions, call tracking and, where your CRM supports it, offline conversion import.
  5. A tracking document listing every tag, trigger and conversion action, so the next person can maintain it.
  6. A test log showing each form and call path tested end to end.
  7. A walkthrough call with Cesar to go through the findings.

07

Do You Need a GA4 Consultant, or Can You Fix Tracking Yourself?

You can fix tracking yourself if you have one website, one form, no call tracking and someone comfortable in Google Tag Manager. You need a GA4 consultant when several tools have to agree (GA4, Google Ads, call tracking and a CRM), when nobody can explain why reported and real leads differ, or when ad budget depends on the answer.

A consultant earns the fee in the match-back, not the tag install. Installing a tag takes minutes. Proving that 60 reported conversions are really 20 leads, finding why, and fixing it without losing account history is the part most businesses skip.

If you run Google Ads, tracking is where our Google Ads consulting starts: the first month of every rebuild goes to tracking and cleanup. For law firms, where the real conversion is a signed case, see how call tracking and intake fit in on our law firm PPC page.

Who Does the Tracking Work?

Cesar Soto, founder of CFS Marketing, does the tracking audit and the rebuild himself. It is not handed to a junior.

  • Certified in Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads Search.
  • Independent client work since 2013; founded CFS Marketing in 2022.
  • Works in Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads and HubSpot.
  • Found the trade school's 1,462 phantom conversions himself, by matching every reported conversion against the school's form database.
  • Based at our Irving, Texas office; works with businesses across the US.

09

What Does a Conversion Tracking Audit Cost?

A CFS Marketing conversion tracking audit is priced by scope: how many sites, forms, call paths, ad accounts and CRM connections need checking, and Cesar quotes after reviewing your accounts. For Google Ads clients, the audit is part of the first month of management.

We don't guarantee a lower cost per lead from a tracking fix. Sometimes clean tracking shows the true cost per lead is higher than the old reports claimed. We commit to numbers you can trust.

What is conversion tracking?

Conversion tracking records when a visitor takes an action that matters to your business, such as submitting a form or calling, and reports it to tools like Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads. Accurate tracking lets you see which campaigns produce real leads.

How do I know if my conversion tracking is accurate?

Compare the conversions Google Ads or GA4 reports for a month with the leads your team actually received in the same month. If the numbers differ by more than a few leads, or you can't match them at all, your tracking needs an audit.

What does a GA4 consultant do?

A GA4 consultant sets up and audits Google Analytics 4 and the tags that feed it, usually through Google Tag Manager, so that key events reflect real business outcomes. CFS Marketing also checks that GA4, Google Ads and your CRM agree.

Can you fix conversion tracking someone else set up?

Yes. Most CFS Marketing tracking work is on setups built by someone else. We audit what exists, keep what works, and rebuild what counts the wrong thing, while protecting your account history.

Do you need access to our CRM?

Read access to your CRM or intake log helps, because CFS Marketing compares reported conversions with real leads. If you can't share access, an export of leads for the same period works.

Will fixing tracking lower my cost per lead?

Not always. Fixing tracking can show that your true cost per lead is higher than reports claimed. CFS Marketing does not guarantee a lower cost per lead; accurate data is what lets bidding and budgets improve from there.
