Bankruptcy Attorney Marketing That Lowers Your Cost per Lead

Bankruptcy attorney marketing is the system that gets a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 practice found, trusted and called by people who are ready to talk to a lawyer about their debt. CFS Marketing ran Google Ads for a bankruptcy law firm for four years, from 2022 through 2025. The account produced 1,511 conversions in that time, and its cost per conversion fell every year, from $61.44 in 2021 under the previous agency to $51.12 in 2025.

Below is what we changed, how we counted, and how the rest of the system fits around it.

01

What did four years of Google Ads do for a bankruptcy law firm?

Four years of CFS Marketing's Google Ads management cut the bankruptcy firm's cost per conversion every year and kept its conversion rate above the inherited baseline in every year. We took the account over from another agency at the start of 2022, so the firm's 2021 numbers are the baseline.

Year Managed by Conversions Conversion rate Cost per conversion
2021 Previous agency (baseline) 337 13.43% $61.44
2022 CFS Marketing 327 22.80% $60.06
2023 CFS Marketing 380 20.44% $56.16
2024 CFS Marketing 475 17.73% $52.93
2025 CFS Marketing 329 17.78% $51.12

Total under CFS Marketing, 2022 to 2025: 1,511 conversions. The 2025 cost per conversion was 16.8% below the 2021 baseline.

What changed. We rebuilt the keyword set around people looking to hire a bankruptcy lawyer and cut the searches that weren't. Aggressive negative keyword management removed 40% of the low-intent traffic the account had been paying for, so more of every budget went to clicks that could become a call.

How we counted. The 2024 figure of 475 conversions was checked against the firm's CRM. It is real inquiry volume, not just what the ad platform reported.

The caveats. Conversion rate peaked in 2022, the year we took over, then settled around 18%. That is well above the 13.43% baseline, but it did not rise every year. 2025 produced fewer conversions (329) than 2024 on a smaller budget, and cost per conversion still hit its lowest point. This is one firm in one market. Your cost per lead depends on your market, your competitors and your intake, and nobody can promise you a number in advance.

02

What does a complete bankruptcy marketing system include?

A complete bankruptcy marketing system has six parts feeding one intake process.

Part What it does for a bankruptcy practice
Google Ads Captures people searching for a bankruptcy lawyer right now
Local Services Ads Puts the firm at the top of the page, paid per lead instead of per click
Google Business Profile and local SEO Wins map-pack and "near me" searches without paying per click
Call tracking, GA4 and CRM Shows which channel produced which consult and which signed client
AI search visibility Gets the firm named when people ask ChatGPT or Google's AI who to call
Trust signals Turns a nervous visitor into a booked consultation

The money usually leaks between the parts: ads producing calls nobody tracks, or a strong Business Profile sending people to a slow website.

03

How should a bankruptcy firm run Google Ads?

A bankruptcy firm should run Google Ads on tight, high-intent keywords, keep Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 in separate campaigns, prune low-intent searches every week, and judge the account on cost per signed client rather than clicks. Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 fit different financial situations, so each needs its own ads and landing pages.

The rules we run bankruptcy accounts on:

  • A "Chapter 13 lawyer near me" click lands on a Chapter 13 page, never the homepage.
  • Negative keywords are a weekly job. The 40% low-intent cut above came from constant pruning, not a single cleanup.
  • Only calls and forms that reach intake count as conversions.
  • Budget follows the hours your intake team actually answers the phone.

04

Are Local Services Ads worth it for bankruptcy lawyers?

Local Services Ads are worth testing for most consumer bankruptcy firms, because Google charges for leads instead of clicks. Google's own description is "pay only for leads related to your business." Lawyers are an eligible category, and firms that pass Google's screening show a Google Verified badge (Google Local Services Help).

We switch on only the case types the firm takes (Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 personal bankruptcy, for most consumer practices), make sure LSA calls are answered live, mark every lead in the platform, and compare cost per signed client against Google Ads each month before moving budget.

05

How do local SEO and Google Business Profile bring in bankruptcy consults?

Local SEO and Google Business Profile bring in bankruptcy consults by getting the firm into the map pack for "bankruptcy attorney near me" searches, with no cost per click. Google shows bankruptcy map packs even on loosely related searches: in our November 2026 check, a pack of three bankruptcy firms sat near the top of the US results for "bankruptcy attorney marketing," a query typed by marketers, not people in debt.

What moves a bankruptcy firm's local visibility:

  • A complete Google Business Profile with the right primary category, real office photos, hours that match when intake answers, and services listed by chapter.
  • A separate page on your website for each service: Chapter 7, Chapter 13, the means test in plain English, and stopping a foreclosure or wage garnishment. Your attorneys approve each one.
  • A steady flow of recent reviews. Ask every client at the same point in the case, the same way, and never offer anything in exchange.
  • The same firm name, address and phone number on every directory and legal listing.

Our lead strategist, Cesar Soto, managed Google Business Profiles for more than 2,000 locations as the in-house SEO Specialist at a hospital network.

06

Why does intake speed decide what a signed client costs?

Intake speed decides what a signed client costs because a lead you've paid for is wasted if nobody answers, calls back or books the consult. A cheap lead that rings out to voicemail can end up costing more than an expensive one that gets booked the same day.

What we set up before we raise ad spend:

  • Call tracking by channel, so Google Ads, LSA, Business Profile and organic calls are counted separately.
  • GA4 and Google Ads conversion tracking that counts real inquiries only. We've audited accounts reporting conversions the business couldn't find in its own records.
  • A CRM connection marking each lead consulted, retained or lost, which turns cost per lead into cost per signed client.
  • A weekly missed-call report, by hour and by day.

07

How do bankruptcy firms show up in ChatGPT and AI answers?

Bankruptcy firms show up in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and other AI answers when those engines can find clear, consistent, quotable information about the firm: who it serves, where, which chapters it handles and what clients say about it. People now ask AI assistants full questions like "should I file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13" or "best bankruptcy lawyer near me," and the answer can name specific firms.

We work on attorney-reviewed answer pages for the questions your clients ask, consistent firm details across your site, Business Profile and legal directories, schema markup for the firm and its attorneys, and prompt testing to see which AI answers name you and which name your competitors. Our AI Visibility Audit shows where your firm stands now, and the full method is on our answer engine optimization page. No one can guarantee that an AI engine will recommend you, and we won't claim to.

When during the year do bankruptcy inquiries peak?

US consumer bankruptcy filings have historically climbed from February through April and peaked in March. Researchers Ronald Mann and Katie Porter tied that pattern to tax refunds, which many filers use to pay attorney and court fees (Credit Slips, via ABI). Filings have also historically dipped in November and December, around the holidays (Credit Slips, "The December Effect").

How we plan a bankruptcy firm's year around that cycle:

Months Focus
January Finish tracking fixes and landing pages before demand rises
February to April Raise budgets and intake staffing for tax-refund season, and refresh fee and payment-plan information
May to October Steady spend, with more weight on Chapter 13, foreclosure and garnishment searches
November and December Trim paid spend and put the time into reviews, content and local SEO

After a year of clean tracking, your firm's own monthly lead curve replaces the national pattern.

09

Which trust signals matter to someone considering bankruptcy?

The trust signals that matter most to someone considering bankruptcy are plain fees, a real attorney's name and face, recent reviews, and language that treats debt as a common problem rather than a personal failure. Fear-based ads ("creditors are coming for your home") can win clicks from stressed people. They don't win trust.

What we build into every page and ad:

  • Clear fee information, attorney photos and bios, and a short privacy note on consultation requests.
  • Honest wording, with no promised outcomes and no "wipe out all your debt" claims. ABA Model Rule 7.1 bars false or misleading communications about a lawyer's services (ABA).
  • The debt relief agency disclosure where it applies. Federal law requires certain bankruptcy advertising to include the statement "We are a debt relief agency. We help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code," or a substantially similar one (11 U.S.C. § 528). In 2010 the Supreme Court held that attorneys who provide bankruptcy assistance are covered (Milavetz v. United States).
  • No targeting on financial distress. Google restricts personalized ad targeting in sensitive categories, including negative financial status (Google Ads policy). We reach people through what they search for, not by profiling their hardship.

We're marketers, not lawyers. Your firm approves every ad and page, and your state bar's advertising rules come first.

How much does bankruptcy attorney marketing cost?

CFS Marketing retainers for bankruptcy firms are billed monthly and scoped by how many channels we manage, and Cesar quotes after reviewing your accounts. Ad spend is separate. In our four-year bankruptcy case study, yearly cost per conversion ranged from $60.06 down to $51.12. Your cost will depend on your market and competition.

What is the best way to generate bankruptcy leads?

The most reliable bankruptcy lead generation pairs high-intent search (Google Ads, Local Services Ads and Google Business Profile) with fast intake and tracking all the way to the signed client. CFS Marketing is a consultancy, not a lead vendor. The campaigns run for your firm, and the inquiries go only to your firm.

Should a bankruptcy firm use Local Services Ads or Google Ads?

Most consumer bankruptcy firms should test both. Local Services Ads charge per lead and appear at the top of the page. Google Ads gives more control over keywords, ads and landing pages. We compare cost per signed client from each every month and move budget to the winner.

Do bankruptcy ads need a "debt relief agency" disclosure?

Federal law, 11 U.S.C. § 528, requires certain bankruptcy advertising to state "We are a debt relief agency. We help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code," or something substantially similar. Your counsel and state bar rules decide exactly how it applies to your ads. We build the approved wording into every ad and page.

How long does it take to get more bankruptcy consultations?

Google Ads and Local Services Ads can start producing inquiries as soon as campaigns are approved and live. Local SEO and AI search visibility take longer to build. We won't promise a timeline or a lead count, and we report what the tracking shows every month.

Can you help my firm show up in ChatGPT answers?

Yes. Answer engine optimization covers how ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and similar tools describe and recommend firms. Our AI Visibility Audit shows where your firm appears today and what to fix first. No one can guarantee an AI recommendation.
